Where I'm From

I小蝌蚪APP檓 from Eunice and I came to UL Lafayette to study art education.

Where I Am

I小蝌蚪APP檓 loving all of my classes, including drawing, ceramics, and wood shop.

Where I'm Going

I小蝌蚪APP檓 going to become an art teacher.

Caroline Stearns fell in love with teaching when she started tutoring children in an after-school program. When she came to college, she knew she wanted to combine that new love with her oldest love: art.

小蝌蚪APP淚小蝌蚪APP檝e always loved art,小蝌蚪APP she Caroline said. 小蝌蚪APP淎rt is a place for imagination, and I love to live in my imagination.小蝌蚪APP

And that小蝌蚪APP檚 why she chose to major in art education at the 小蝌蚪APP. She小蝌蚪APP檚 loved every part of the program so far.

小蝌蚪APP淭here are a lot of things to love about being an art education major,小蝌蚪APP she said. 小蝌蚪APP淓very professor I小蝌蚪APP檝e had has been amazing! I have loved my drawing classes! All of my classmates have been great and the classes I have taken have been a perfect fit for me.小蝌蚪APP

In her visual arts classes, Caroline has worked with multiple media types, including charcoal, pencil and pen, ceramics, and wood.

小蝌蚪APP淚 had never taken any formal art classes, which was super intimidating going in,小蝌蚪APP she said. 小蝌蚪APP淚t still is sometimes, knowing that a lot of people are already pretty advanced. But once you get started, the teachers are so helpful and you get so close with your fellow art students who are more than willing to help a friend out who is struggling.小蝌蚪APP

In her education classes, Caroline has gotten to explore how art and education theories work together. In her Teaching Art Education class (VIAR 215), their class worked with the on-campus to develop lesson plans around the museum小蝌蚪APP檚 online collection.

小蝌蚪APP淭his project was very special and unique. We picked a work of art and created a lesson plan based off of that work of art,小蝌蚪APP she said. 小蝌蚪APP淚t really made you think, and it was super cool to learn about local artists in the Hilliard.小蝌蚪APP

Those learning experiences are helping prepare Caroline for her career as an art teacher 小蝌蚪APP but she小蝌蚪APP檚 learning more than just what小蝌蚪APP檚 in the curriculum.

小蝌蚪APP淧erseverance, creative problem solving, and collaboration are three of the biggest skills I have taken away so far,小蝌蚪APP she said, 小蝌蚪APP渁nd I小蝌蚪APP檓 sure there are many more to come.小蝌蚪APP
