The Сòòò½APP will confer undergraduate, masterСòòò½APP™s and doctoral degrees on Friday, Aug. 3, during Summer 2018 Commencement.
The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. in the Cajundome.
UL Lafayette holds Commencement three times a year, at the end of the fall, spring and summer semesters.
The Сòòò½APP revived the summer ceremony in 2014 after a 65-year hiatus. It was reintroduced so graduating seniors wouldnСòòò½APP™t have to wait until Fall Commencement in December to be recognized. Prior to 2014, the last Summer Commencement was held in 1949.
The summer ceremony is smaller than Commencements held in the fall and spring.
About 300 graduates are expected to receive diplomas Aug. 3. By comparison, 1,718 received diplomas during Spring 2018 ceremonies, the second-largest graduating class in Сòòò½APP history.
Dr. Jennifer Lemoine, an assistant professor in the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, will be Commencement speaker.
A certified nurse practitioner, Lemoine is a recipient of the 2018 Dr. Ray P. Authement Excellence in Teaching Award, one of the highest honors the Сòòò½APP confers on faculty. Lemoine is an expert in neonatology, medical care for babies who are ill or born premature.
Security measures will be in place at the Cajundome. Сòòò½APP Police officers will examine purses, bags, and packages of attendees. Extremely large bags or oversized packages wonСòòò½APP™t be permitted.
